Collaborative Divorce

Sometimes couples do not wish to litigate but feel it necessary for an attorney to negotiate directly on their behalf. These couples may be more comfortable engaging in a non-adversarial Collaborative Divorce. In Collaborative Divorce, the clients select a team of professionals that include two specially trained collaborative attorneys, two divorce coaches, a neutral child specialist and a neutral financial specialist. The integrated team serves to help the parties contain the negative emotions that often derail the divorce process and force couples into endless legal battles. The goal of Collaborative Divorce is to achieve a thoughtful and fair agreement in a timely, cost effective manner. The child specialist meets with the parents and children with a goal of educating the family and the team regarding the needs of the children. In that way, parents are assisted in developing a parenting plan most suitable to the needs of their unique family.

Collaborative Divorce and Divorce Mediation are alternative dispute resolution methods that obviate the need to go to court. If you would like to discuss which option would be better for you, please feel free to call Dr. Schrag for a consultation at 914-232-8000.
